Explore the high-level protective benefits of this technology application.

Discomfort from windchill is eliminated by GORE® WINDSTOPPER® Garments - they are totally windproof, not just wind resistant.

The enhanced breathability helps manage the body's microclimate, even during strenuous work.

GORE® WINDSTOPPER® Garments resist water and have a fast dry-out time.

    Wearable protection against windchill

Ideal for defense personnel and law enforcement officers, the versatile and hard-working GORE® WINDSTOPPER® garments are totally windproof, water resistant and highly breathable. This combination of protection and breathability minimizes the wind’s chilling effect while reducing the risk of overheating when officers and personnel are out on the field: in other words, the totally windproof, yet extremely breathable GORE® WINDSTOPPER™ membrane blocks the wind but allows sweat vapor to escape.

Although textiles such as microfibers, closely woven fabrics and many fleece materials are often said to be windproof, even light winds can penetrate most of these fabrics, making wearers feel chilled and uncomfortable. By Gore’s standards, a fabric can only be considered truly windproof if its air permeability is 1.0 cfm (< 5 l/m2/s) or less. It’s a standard that every GORE® WINDSTOPPER® garment easily meets.

GORE® WINDSTOPPER® garments are suited for a wide range of designs, adaptable for specific needs and requirements - from 2-layer stand-alone jackets and trousers, or 3-layer liner constructions for slightly colder conditions. A durable water repellent (DWR) fabric treatment is often used to provide additional water repellency.

GORE® WINDSTOPPER® garments can also be combined with other GORE® technologies for additional benefits: added abrasion resistance, and added insulation, Stretch® and next-to-skin comfort, for example.

GORE® WINDSTOPPER® Products with Stretch Technology

Description: Optimum fit, wind protection and enhanced freedom of movement all in one garment. The technology reduces the need to wear many layers of clothing. GORE® Stretch Technology can be tailored to specific areas of the garment, on places like the elbows, knees or back. The wearer is able to move with less effort and will feel less pressure on the skin, resulting in perceptibly enhanced comfort when compared with non-elastic garments.

Added benefits: Non-restrictive clothing is ideal for a range of different scenarios, such as resisting arrest, driving, reaching for equipment, or kneeling on the ground. The stretch and high recovery from the FR Stretch panels adapts to the use of additional layers or protective equipment such as ballistics vests. Optimum fit enables officers to always look their best.

Ideal for: Ideal for use in jackets and trousers for law enforcement officers. Police forces can choose a specification for body armour to be worn either outside or underneath the garment, depending on the force’s policy.

GORE® WINDSTOPPER® Products with Insulation Protection

Description: GORE® WINDSTOPPER® Products with Insulation Protection are totally windproof, deliver maximum breathability and provide reliable insulation protection to keep wearers warmer for longer in cold, windy weather conditions. A durable water repellent treatment (DWR) on the outer fabric provides additional protection.

Added benefits: Added warmth against windchill when working outside for long periods. This can make all the difference between comfort and inability to work during a mission.

Ideal for: Defense personnel working in demanding, cold and windy conditions.
