GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® Moisture Barriers for Turnout Gear
GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® Moisture Barriers provide excellent breathability, enabling perspiration to escape more freely to help manage your body core temperature better even during intense physical exertion. When tested in accordance with the NFPA 1970 (71) standard, the moisture barriers did not melt, stick, or ignite.
Wearing the right protective gear in firefighting can be life critical. Garments with GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® Moisture Barriers offer advanced protection against blood-borne pathogens, body fluids, and NFPA common chemicals like battery acid and hydraulic fluid.
Critically, the GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® Moisture Barrier delivers durable liquid penetration resistance while remaining breathable.
KEY BENEFITS
How Firefighters Are Protected
Breathable
Blood-Borne and Viral Pathogen Protection
Chemical Resistant
Flame resistant
Durably waterproof
Rugged
Excellent breathability in broader conditions.
Barriers are engineered for protection against pathogens found in blood and body fluids.
Prevents penetration of NFPA commonly encountered fireground chemicals. The fabric properties remain intact even after contamination.
These barriers deliver thermal performance in some of the toughest conditions.
Emergencies can happen in any kind of weather - that's why GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® fabrics are durably waterproof.
Testing showed the barrier, and its seams remained liquid penetration resistant after 25 wash/dry cycles and five convective heat exposures—2 ½ times greater than what the standard requires.
Explore Our New Products
We’ve used our material science know-how to tackle real, and often complex challenges faced by firefighters. That commitment has led to advancements in our GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® Products for firefighting garments, bringing improved performance and helping shape a new wave of protective moisture barriers.
Traditional garments consist of a three-layer composite: an outer shell, a moisture barrier, and a thermal liner. The durability, thermal performance and breathability are influenced by the layers selected. Enhanced moisture movement through the layers not only helps manage your body core temperature, but also helps to maintain thermal protection.
GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® Endure Moisture Barrier
The new GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® Endure Moisture Barrier provides an unmatched combination of durability and breathability, letting firefighters stay focused on the task at hand.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: The moisture barrier's seams remained liquid penetration resistant after 25 wash/dry cycles and five convective heat exposures—2 ½ times greater than what the standard requires. Its low evaporative resistance helps regulate body core temperature by allowing sweat vapor to escape, reducing heat stress in a broad range of conditions. Backed by a 7-year limited warranty,* it’s built for reliable long-term protective performance.
*Final details of warranty TBD
GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® Prime moisture barrier
The GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® Prime Moisture Barrier is designed to help manage the impacts caused by elevated body core temperatures. With unmatched breathability, it supports better body temperature regulation—crucial for maintaining focus and performance in high-stress environments.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: Engineered for extreme conditions, this barrier allows heat and perspiration to escape efficiently, helping reduce the risk of heat stress. It remains thermally stable in extreme conditions without melting, sticking, or igniting. Elevate your confidence knowing it’s component recognized to the NFPA 1970 (71) standard and compliant with EN 469.
GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® INNOVATE MOISTURE BARRIER
This new moisture barrier delivers reliable protection against blood, body fluids, NFPA common chemicals, and water. Advanced engineering ensures optimized performance of an integrated product package, including our moisture barrier fabric, seam tape, and repair tape.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: For departments that wish to align with the optional requirement of the NFPA 1970 (71) standard, this moisture barrier upon certification has a PFAS (total fluorine) concentration of no more than 100 PPM. We will also honor a lifetime warranty, subject to NFPA 1851, 2020ed retirement requirements, for GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® Innovate Moisture Barrier against manufacturing defects and workmanship.
*Made without intentionally added per- and polyfluorinated substances; may contain trace amounts
GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® PARALLON® LINER SYSTEM
GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® PARALLON® Liner System provides excellent breathability, while also preventing serious drops in thermal protection that can occur as your gear gets wet, particularly from sweat.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: The technology has been proven through testing to reduce the risk of burn injuries. When tested in an ordinary fireground heat exposure (i.e. 0.2 cal/cm2sec) to 2nd degree burn level, wet conventional gear lost 34 percent of its thermal protection compared to when it was dry. However, the GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® PARALLON® liner system lost only 4 percent, remaining relatively unchanged after it became wet.
GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® BLACK MOISTURE BARRIER
Selected by most major metro departments as their barrier of choice, GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® Black Moisture Barrier provides high breathability and outstanding durability that complies with the NFPA 1851 Standard.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: Helps firefighters manage heat stress better across a broad range of conditions, such as responding to an accident on hot asphalt highway or venting a rooftop in the heat of the sun.
NFPA 1970 (71):
Standard on Protective Ensembles for Structural and Proximity Firefighting, Work Apparel, Open-Circuit Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for Emergency Services and Personal Alert Safety Systems (PASS)
Certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, PPE Supplement
