Designed for the harshest work environments, EXTRAGUARD upper technology for GORE-TEX safety footwear offers robust protection, even after months of use or constant wear in challenging wet conditions.

When dry, the robust and abrasion-resistant upper material construction is 40 percent lighter than leather.

Due to the low water absorption construction, the upper remains lightweight in wet conditions.

The upper hardly absorbs any moisture from the outside even after extensive use or loss of the water repellent finish.

Significantly faster drying time compared with conventional uppers used for safety footwear.

The EXTRAGUARD upper is easy to clean and does not require specific care products as needed for conventional footwear.

External moisture cannot penetrate beyond the low water absorption construction layer. The result: reduced conductive heat loss, consequently feet stay dry and comfortable.

GORE-TEX EXTRAGUARD safety footwear is durably waterproof thanks to the GORE-TEX lining technology (bootie construction).

GORE-TEX EXTRAGUARD safety footwear keeps feet comfortable in a broad range of climates by allowing sweat vapor to escape.

GORE-TEX EXTRAGUARD safety footwear protects against commonly occurring chemicals.

ROBUST PROTECTION AND LIGHTWEIGHT COMFORT COMBINED

Robust, waterproof, and breathable safety footwear needs to offer reliable protection for physical work in all weather conditions. In the past, robustness has often automatically been associated with heavier footwear and less comfort for the feet. The new three-layer EXTRAGUARD upper technology is now paving the way for the manufacture of a totally new class of robust and lightweight GORE-TEX safety footwear: one, where wearers of safety footwear don't need to compromise any longer between robust protection and lightweight comfort.

    Behind the technology

    STANDARDS & LAB TESTS

Tested for safety and certified in accordance with EN ISO 20345:2011 for protection level S2 and S3 safety footwear.
Offers protection against commonly occurring chemicals*, in accordance with ISO 13994/ASTM F 903, method C.

*Commonly occurring chemicals include AFFF Fire-fighting foam (3%), sulphuric acid H2SO4 (37%) diesel, and caustic soda NaOH (30%).

    Gore Lab Tests:

    • Gore static Water bucket test: Boots are submerged at 10 cm water level.
    • Gore static Rain shower test: Boot is exposed to very heavy rain simulation.
    • Gore Walking simulator test: Boots are submerged in 5 cm water and flexed 300,000 times.
    Sustainability

EXTRAGUARD upper technology perfectly fits the GORE-TEX brand’s sustainability commitments.
