    Durable Water Repellent (DWR)

    What is DWR?

    Durable Water Repellent (DWR) is applied on most GORE‑TEX Products. While the membrane helps ensures the fabric is waterproof, windproof, and breathable, the DWR treatment enhances comfort by helping to keep the outer fabric dry and avoiding the unpleasant dampness sensation.

    How Does it Work?

    The DWR forms a very thin layer on the face textile's surface to prevent water from soaking into your gear, keeping you dry and comfortable. Without DWR, the face textile's surface loses its water-beading ability. While the membrane will still maintain the garment's waterproofness, the outer layer can become saturated, leaving the garment feeling cold and clammy.

    When Should you Reactivate or reapply Your DWR?

    DWR isn't permanent.

    Regular wear and tear, exposure to sunscreen lotion, dirt, detergents, insect repellent, other materials can shorten the lifespan of the treatment. If water fails to bead up on the surface of your cleaned and tumble-dried garment or your cleaned footwear, its DWR treatment has reached the end of its useful life and should be reapplied.

     

    How to Restore Your Product's DWR
    It's easy: first wash and apply heat to your GORE-TEX Products to restore its effectiveness. If this method no longer restores the DWR, it’s time to reactivate using a spray-on or wash-in product. See more detailed wash and care care instructions linked below. Always make sure to reference the manufacturer's instructions as well.
