The results of our summer wearer trial at Berlin's Public Works Department

Athletic GORE-TEX Safety Footwear is designed for warmer temperatures and high intensity activities. These breathable safety shoes are equipped with a thin, 3-layer, non-insulated GORE-TEX Extended Comfort laminate. As a result, street cleaning and refuse collection staff hardly ever feel hot and sweaty while performing their physically taxing tasks.

This has been confirmed by our summer wearer trial: between July and September 2016, as many as 23 staff at Berlin's Public Works Department (BSR) tested ELTEN's low-cut safety shoe Senex Pro GTX ESD S3 and the mid-cut version Sander Pro GTX ESD S3. The street cleaning, refuse collection and recycling staff wore the shoes between six and nine hours a day. Most of the testing was done while the trial participants were cleaning streets and pavements using special vehicles or brooms and dustcarts, collecting waste, or carrying out tasks at recycling facilities. Most of the participants had so far worn safety shoes without a membrane.

At the end of the 12 week wearer trial, an online questionnaire and a personal debriefing session were used to collect feedback on the S3 safety shoes from the street cleaning staff.

A very comfortable, quick-dry, lightweight shoe.

Looks great, so I think it's a very good shoe.

    PERCEPTION OF TEMPERATURE

The shoes also scored high when the participants were asked about the temperature inside the shoes. Nearly all of the participants said that the temperature inside the shoes was pleasant (when worn outdoors at temperatures between 10°C and 25°C). 82 percent of the participants said the same about temperatures over 25°C.

27 percent of the participants said that they actually found the test shoes “cooler” than their old shoes (without a membrane).

    SWEATING

77 percent of the BSR staff said they perceived “no sweating” or only “mild” sweating in the test shoes.

68 percent of the participants said that they had even “sweat less” than in their old shoes (without a membrane).

    RE-DRY

Nearly all of the participants (93%) were very satisfied with the speed at which the test shoes dried.

A HIGH LEVEL OF WALKING COMFORT

Almost all of the participants (96 percent) were happy with the walking comfort of the test shoes. On average, the participants walked a distance of 16 km a day.

    Recommendation

All of the participants said that they would recommend the shoes to others.
